Another American master, McFarland (1962) in his book, â€Å"American Foundation for Management Research† he cha racterized organization as alludes to the assurance of significant goals and approaches while the executives to the completing of the activities intended to achieve the points and effectuate the poicies. Therefore it might create the impression that both the terms, in particular organization and the board are obvious of very much the same importance, yet there is in reality a contrasts between the two as follows. Organization is the study of deciding the approaches and targets of an association or a firm, while the executives is the demonstration of trying the arrangements and goals encircled by the organization. It would thus be able to be said that organization is a determinative capacity while the board is official capacity. Highlight article about Production ManagementIt is official as in it executes the targets and approaches that are as of now encircled by the organization and remembered for the constitution. A genuine model can be taken from our Tanzanian ecclesiastical model where by Ministers take jobs of figuring wide goal, approaches and objectives for the service (head) while the translation and the execution of the set down strategies targets and objectives stay in the possession of executives and other capable work force (managers)Also organization includes top level faculty that have added to the capital, that are accomplices of the organization or the association while the executives contains a gathering of chiefs that display their expertise in trying the destinations of the association. It very well may be essentially said that the administration is straightforwardly heavily influenced by organization or the organization controls the management. For model, monetary foundation chiefs like bank supervisors displays their administrative abilities by expanding the capital or benefit of the bank in order to satisfy the pre set down targets by the directorate or proprietor (head). In this way the executives would endure if the organization is fulfilled by the administration scholarly show. Consequently the executives ought to carefully contain capable supervisors that show their capacity in converting into training what the organization expects of them. Moreover arranging is the key factor of an organization while inspiration is the key factor of the executives. Arranging of all exercises in a predefined timeframe of an association is finished by the organization then administration decide on how the arranged intercessions in a given time can be cultivated whereby it might include a few inspirations as a rule in order to raise spirit of execution. It is imperative to take note of that authoritative handles the most fundamental part of an association, to be specific, financ e.This is because of the way that organization composes assets in order to utilize them to satisfy their central goal. While the executives doesn't deal with the touchy issue of money yet handles the technique for activity to do the methodology of the organization. In this way chiefs must be master of the applicable field he/she work. For instance, bank administrator must be a specialist of the money related field like records, business organization e. tcAdministration additionally takes essential choices of an association while the executives isn't approved to take crucial choices of an association however can take choices inside a specific system, by the endorsement of the organization. For instance, bank supervisors can't choose to have business understanding or agreements like advances without earlier endorsement by the organization. Likewise organization is made of overseers who are as a rule found in government, strict, military and instructive associations, while the executiv es is made up by chiefs who are found in unique projects and business foundation only.CONCLUSION when all is said in done, organization is worried about the general assurance of approaches and destinations and defining of significant objectives and spreading out the wide projects, though, the board indicates execution of the targets and projects. Iron Increases Heart Disease :: essays research papers

Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) has tormented man from the beginning of time. Diet and genetic factors clearly are the key segments in building up this condition. Nourishments high in cholesterol and immersed fats are frequently ensnared in hurrying or disturbing coronary illness. Numerous ailment states, for example, diabetes mellitus and hypertension have likewise been appeared to expand a people chances for CAD. Coronary illness for the most part influences people over age 60, yet can be found in individuals who are a lot more youthful for different reasons. This infection remains the main source of hospitalization and demise in the grown-up populace in western culture (McCance and Huether, 1994).      The motivation behind this writing audit is to explore inquire about managing the subject of expanded serum iron levels and the predominance of CAD. Clinical diaries were principally utilized for examine information because of the idea of the subject and the requirement for inside and out examination.      While it has the most noteworthy pervasiveness of any malady, ladies experience just 30-half of the coronary supply route ailment occurrence and mortality old enough coordinated men (Meyers, 1996). Many feel this might be because of the defensive impact that estrogen has on the veins of females. There may really be an immediate relationship to diminished serum iron levels because of menses. While men " fabricate up" iron in the blood, ladies scrub themselves of iron development on the month to month premise. Meyers (1996) likewise expresses that oxidation, the procedure wherein a particle builds its positive charges (Miller and Keane, 1992), of low thickness lipoprotein cholesterol is significant in atherosclerosis, and since oxidation is catalyzed by iron, it has been speculated that the lower iron stores of ladies decrease their danger of CAD through reduced lipid peroxide, a result of oxidation.      Numerous contemplates have been directed to really check whether a connection between serum iron or serum transferrin, (serum iron focus separated by absolute iron-restricting limit), and coronary illness or myocardial localized necrosis, (cardiovascular failures) exists. Sempos and Looker, (1994) utilized an aggregate of 4518 people to direct the main investigation of its sort regarding the matter of iron and CAD. Visit serum iron levels, gathered from 1971-74, and followed up through 1987, demonstrated the danger of CAD was not identified with serum transferrin levels in white men or ladies. In reality, an opposite relationship of complete body iron stores and in general mortality was appeared, that is moderate to high serum transferrin related with lower mortality.

The Hazards of Using Pipe Tobacco

The Hazards of Using Pipe Tobacco Addiction Nicotine Use Print The Hazards of Using Pipe Tobacco By Terry Martin facebook twitter Terry Martin quit smoking after 26 years and is now an advocate for those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction. Learn about our editorial policy Terry Martin Medically reviewed by Medically reviewed by Sanja Jelic, MD on June 30, 2017 Sanja Jelic, MD, is board-certified in sleep medicine, critical care medicine, pulmonary disease, and internal medicine.   Learn about our Medical Review Board Sanja Jelic, MD Updated on January 07, 2020 More in Addiction Nicotine Use After You Quit How to Quit Smoking Nicotine Withdrawal Smoking-Related Diseases The Inside of Cigarettes Alcohol Use Addictive Behaviors Drug Use Coping and Recovery As of Dec. 20, 2019, the new legal age limit is 21 years old for purchasing cigarettes, cigars, or any other tobacco products in the U.S. Smoking tobacco out of a pipe has been around for many centuries and has been a common practice  worldwide. Historically, pipes were used in ceremonies with  the practice gradually gaining mainstream popularity over the years as an accepted way to smoke tobacco. Shops sprang up that catered to pipe (and often cigar) smokers. Flavored blends sold in bulk could be sampled right on the premises in smoke rooms set up for patrons. Pipe smoking has been dwindling in use  since the 1960s but is still favored by a small percentage (approximately 2 percent) of smokers in the United States today, especially older men. Pipe smoking  is still common in Sweden, whereas many as one-quarter of adult males smoke a pipe. Illustration by JR Bee, Verywell What Is Pipe Tobacco and Is It Addictive? Pipe tobacco is loose-leaf tobacco most commonly grown in northern middle Tennessee, western Kentucky, and Virginia. It is fire-cured, which involves slowly smoking the drying tobacco leaves over a smoldering hardwood fire inside of a barn or structure of some sort. The process can take days to weeks, and the end result is a tobacco that is low in sugar and high in nicotine. Most pipe tobacco is aromatic, having had a flavoring added to the finished product that gives it a depth and richness in taste and smell. Pipe tobacco is addictive. An average pipe bowl contains one to three grams of tobacco, with the nicotine level per gram averaging 30-50 milligrams. Smokers dont tend to inhale pipe smoke as much as cigarette smokers, but some nicotine still reaches the bloodstream after being absorbed through the lining of the mouth. Pipe Tobacco Is Federally Regulated in the United States In 2016, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) extended a rule that gives the FDA regulatory authority over all tobacco products, including pipe tobacco. The manufacture, packaging, and labeling of all tobacco products must meet FDA guidelines, as well as how products are advertised, promoted, sold and even imported. The FDA also has authority over components used with tobacco products. In this case, that would mean the pipes used to smoke the tobacco. Tobacco Product Labels All newly regulated tobacco products in the U.S. are required to  include the following warning label on packaging: WARNING: This product contains nicotine. Nicotine is an addictive chemical.?If the manufacturer submits a self-certification form to the FDA, along with proof that their newly regulated product is nicotine-free, then the required label will read: This product is made from tobacco. Ultimately, federal regulation over tobacco products helps to protect consumers. While all tobacco products are hazardous to health, FDA guidelines are meant to ensure that manufacturers are not able to secretly manipulate tobacco recipes in ways that could cause more harm than they already do. Is Pipe Smoking Bad for Your Health? Yes. You might think that because most pipe smokers dont inhale, the health risks are minimal. While there isnt a lot of scientific data on the health effects of pipe smoking, we do know that there are risks. Pipe smoking is associated with a number of illnesses that are common in cigar and cigarette smokers. For instance, pipe smokers face an elevated risk of cancers of the mouth, including  the tongue, larynx, and throat. Smokers who inhale pipe smoke also have an elevated risk of lung, pancreatic, and bladder cancer. Pipe smokers face an increased risk of developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or COPD. While cigarette smoking is usually the main cause of COPD, other forms of tobacco like pipe-smoking and cigars can also result in tobacco smoke inhalation and damage to delicate lung tissue. People who smoke pipes might face an elevated risk of death from heart disease, especially those who inhale the smoke. More research needs to be done in this area. Health Risks and Diseases Related to Smoking Are Cigarettes Worse Than Pipe Smoking? Researchers who have looked at health risk differences between the pipe smoking and cigarettes have concluded that they both carry essentially the same risks for early death from a number of diseases that can be linked to tobacco. These diseases are: Ischaemic heart diseaseStrokeCardiovascular diseaseLung cancerOther smoking-related cancers The only appreciable difference between the two forms of tobacco use is method and frequency of use. Pipe smokers tend not to inhale (as much) as cigarette smokers, and they smoke less often during the course of a day. Differences Between Hookah and Pipe Smoking Starting with the knowledge that both hookah tobacco and pipe tobacco are  hazardous to health, lets take a look at the differences between the two: Frequency:  Hookah is typically smoked at a hookah lounge or in a social setting, so hookah smokers might only smoke once every few days or once a week. Pipe smokers also smoke infrequently, but many light up a pipe once (or a few times) a day.Amount: A hookah pipe bowl can contain 10-15 grams of tobacco, while most regular pipe bowls hold 1-3 grams of tobacco.Nicotine: One hookah session usually lasts 45 minutes to an hour, with smokers inhaling as much as 10 mg of nicotine from the approximately 300 to 750 mg of nicotine in the  tobacco. A bowl of pipe tobacco is smaller and smokers dont inhale as much, so getting an accurate measure of nicotine absorption is difficult. However, we can say that a 3-gram bowl of tobacco-containing as much as 150 mg of nicotine  will deliver a small amount of nicotine into the bloodstream of the smoker.Toxins:  All tobacco products contain a number of toxins that come from a variety of sources: pesticides in the field, additives, and chemical changes that occur when tobacco with additives are burned.  Tar, arsenic, carbon monoxide, and polonium-210 are just a few of the chemicals that are harmful to human health in tobacco smoke. To date, upwards of 250 poisonous chemicals and 70 carcinogenic compounds have been identified in tobacco and tobacco smoke. A Word From Verywell It has been well documented that there is no safe level of exposure to tobacco smoke. This is true regardless of the form  tobacco comes in. Smokers and non-smokers all face risks to their health when breathing in tobacco smoke. If you are a smoker who is trying to find a healthier alternative to cigarettes, know that the only good choice is  to wean yourself off of tobacco entirely. There are a number of ways  to quit successfully. Nicotine addiction is enslaving, and quitting is difficult, but its possible to do the work now to quit and shed the limits addiction puts on your life. Others have done it and you can, too. How Climate Change Is The Key For Improvement - 2171 Words

Access to information is the key for improvement. For example, our consumption of the world’s resources is arguably becoming unsustainable, and this can be proven plausible with a change in the climate. One may ask, exactly how is climate change related to consumption? This type of information is only one of the things a climate change broker can help with. The Rockies Institute (TRI) is one of these brokers. Their mission is to grow the capacity of individuals, businesses and communities to build resilience and adapt to climate change. In fact, there is already a large network of climate change brokers who have decided to work together by sharing climate data. This network additionally creates opportunities for other climate change brokers to connect with each other and has effectively created a community called the Climate Change Brokers Group (CKB). At the group’s launch event they featured the slogan â€Å"Transforming information into knowledge and climate action.† And with this slogan, the CKG offered a set of challenges. The challenges focused on the quality of the information users are getting and effectiveness and efficiency of information access. CKB and TRI have similar overarching goals: awareness of climate change and encouraging people to take action. Myths of Aincent Greece Essay Example For Students

Myths of Aincent Greece Essay Five Guidelines for Our OrganizingThere is a very positive development happening in the anti-war movement. That is, people are actively trying to connect the war abroad with the struggles for power, resources, and freedom right here in our own neighborhoods. In the Boston area, members of United for Justice with Peace, local activists working to stop the state budget cuts, and progressive city councilors are holding informal meetings to develop strategies for how we can work together in order to mutually benefit and enlarge each others efforts. Neighborhood-based peace groups are forging institutional links with grassroots tenant and immigrant organizations. Our most recent major peace rally featured labor, youth, and representatives from organizations doing a range of peace and justice work. The relationships and institutional ties that grow out of these efforts are nothing less than the beginnings of a broad-based movement for social change. These efforts are critical to our ability to end not just this war but to dismantle the institutions that give rise to wars, and that simultaneously work on multiple levels to concentrate power and wealth in the hands of a few. Speaking from my experience working on the neighborhood and regional levels to connect the many different pockets of activism, I offer the following five proposals that I think could usefully guide our activism at this moment. 1. Build neighborhood based groups. In the Boston area, United for Justice with Peace (www.justicewithpeace.org) has put considerable energy into starting and supporting neighborhood-based peace and justice groups. These groups have been critical to UJPs growth. They are the entry point for many newly mobilized activists who might be less likely to venture into a big downtown meeting of seasoned activists. Meetings are local and include familiar faces. Events, vigils, and forums present opportunities to communicate with people you know, people you live next to, people whose kids go to school with your kids. After 9-11, when UJP first took shape, there were maybe a dozen community based groups working in Boston-area neighborhoods. Representatives from these groups have been meeting once a month for the past year and a half. We have sponsored skills-building conferences, organized workshops, and visited each others meetings to share resources and organizing strategies. There are now over 50 groups each of which is actively engaged in building their ranks, disseminating information, and forging coalitions all on a grassroots level. Because of the war, the number of groups is increasing dramatically and the number of people in each group is doing the same. Because of the early efforts on the part of UJP to support the development of community groups, the infrastructure is in place for more and more groups to form and to have a larger network to link with. I think it is a fair guess that such work would be impossible if it were attempted by a centralized Boston-based organization. Working on a local level, each group has the opportunity to explore relationships with other neighborhood-based organizations. A few examples: In Jamaica Plain, the peace and justice group has worked with City Life (a grassroots tenant and immigrant organization) on their fundraising/neighborhood-clean-up campaign and on their youth march against militarism. In Somerville, peace activists have set up dialogs with the immigrant community in order to better understand how the war on terrorism is affecting their civil liberties. In Dorchester, peace activists have initiated a survey of community agencies to find out how they are being affected by budget cuts. Rather than recruiting people engaged in domestic struggles away from their work and into the peace movement, these peace groups have instead found ways to support those working on the domestic front. In the process, they have learned a thing or two about the challenges their neighbors face. .u09435f1acb227f77db258ef75f9652bf , .u09435f1acb227f77db258ef75f9652bf .postImageUrl , .u09435f1acb227f77db258ef75f9652bf .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u09435f1acb227f77db258ef75f9652bf , .u09435f1acb227f77db258ef75f9652bf:hover , .u09435f1acb227f77db258ef75f9652bf:visited , .u09435f1acb227f77db258ef75f9652bf:active { border:0!important; } .u09435f1acb227f77db258ef75f9652bf .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u09435f1acb227f77db258ef75f9652bf { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u09435f1acb227f77db258ef75f9652bf:active , .u09435f1acb227f77db258ef75f9652bf:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u09435f1acb227f77db258ef75f9652bf .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u09435f1acb227f77db258ef75f9652bf .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u09435f1acb227f77db258ef75f9652bf .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u09435f1acb227f77db258ef75f9652bf .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u09435f1acb227f77db258ef75f9652bf:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u09435f1acb227f77db258ef75f9652bf .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u09435f1acb227f77db258ef75f9652bf .u09435f1acb227f77db258ef75f9652bf-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u09435f1acb227f77db258ef75f9652bf:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: dylexias EssayNot only that, they have found passionate anti-war sentiment among working people and people of color an eye-opener for those who may have thought that the anti-war demographic is disproportionately white and privileged. Contrary to what you often hear, people fighting evictions would also like to be mobilizing to fight the war. But they cant add that organizational work to their already over-taxed agendas. A neighborhood group that is organizing against the war and that has built a relationship with the eviction-fighters is a welcome addition to the community. It helps capture the growing anti-war energy; it provides channels for the community to express it s anti-war sentiments. And it does all this by contributing to the mix of available activist outlets. Supporting decentralized, neighborhood-based organizing helps give people a political home, a way for their voice to be heard, a comfortable way for them to have an impact, important lessons in organizing, and a chance to create alliances with and build understanding among diverse neighborhood-based groups

Olaudah Equiano Essays (1023 words) - Olaudah Equiano,

Olaudah Equiano Life of Olaudah Equiano is a detailed story about the life of a well-educated slave published. One section of the story in particular describes one of his many experiences in the New World with one of his owners. This narrative is a very powerful one telling about the treatment of slaves, but also many of the good things Equiano experienced while he was a slave. He gives a seemingly honest and unbiased account to his travels abroad. Equiano was born in 1745 in an Ibo village located in Nigeria called Essaka and in 1756 captured by British slave traders. He was brought to the West Indies and later to a Virginia Plantation. During the Seven Year's War he was present in many of the important naval battles. At the time he was the property of a British man, Lt. Michael Henry Pascal, who had originally bought him as a gift to a cousin in London. After ten years he was sold to a Quaker named Robert King, who eventually allowed him to buy his freedom for forty pounds. Equiano then traveled the globe, as he was an experienced seaman. He spent much of his time in London, where he was pushing the Queen in 1788 to allow the settlement of blacks back in Africa in the British colony of Sierra Leone. Despite his efforts, he never made it back to his homeland of Africa, though. He was married in London in 1792 and had one daughter, but soon after died in 1797 (Costanzo "Equiano") Equaino is most noted though, for his autobiography, which was published nine times, including an American edition in 1791, and German and Dutch editions in 1790 and 1791 respectively. Overall, nine editions were published before 1837. The book was a bestseller for many years and still read today as possibly one of the first influential slave narratives (Costanzo Suprising Narrative) Equaino writes his narrative in a very honest and informal form, as if he is writing to someone that he knows well. The audience however, seems to be the people of the Americas as well as Europe, not just other blacks or slaves. For this reason the book is published in America as well as Europe several times while Equiano is still living. In the narrative, Equiano attempts to tell his story with a very fair and accurate historical tone. By doing this he can gain his reader's trust as an unbiased historian, calling for necessary action, rather than an angry slave trying to get back at the slaveholders. He portrays both of his owners as fair men, appreciative of his hard work and good behavior. They always give him the benefits he deserves, and never leave him short of necessary money or supplies. With this reliable persona, though, Equiano can describe the terrible treatment of fellow slaves that were not so fortunate. The atrocities he speaks of, as well as the general lack of care for the slaves, paints a very ugly picture of slavery. Any reasonable person not holding slaves would be convinced of the immorality of the slave trade by reading the narrative. He gives many convincing circumstances in which he tells about the horrors of the slave trade. His account of one of the ships he traveled upon reads like this: I was often witness to cruelties of every kind, which were exercised on my unhappy fellow slaves. I used frequently to have different cargoes of new negroes in my care for sale; and it was almost a constant practice with our clerks and other whites, to commit violent depredations on the chastity of the female slaves; and these I was, though with reluctance, obliged to submit to at all times, being unable to help them. (Equiano 697) The horrors that he describes are countless in his narrative. Many portray a much more vivid image, able to turn a staunch supporter of slavery to a committed abolitionist (Kennerly 20-30). Equiano's narrative brings about a new style of literature rarely seen before, the slave narrative. It is similar to that of the earlier Indian captivity narratives, but different in its motives. Slaves worked in terrible conditions; they had no personal freedom, and no ability to choose their destiny. Few were educated and even fewer had the supplies to write down the things they encountered. When a slave was freed, educated, and granted the supplies to write down his or her thoughts, they were often published and widely read due to the ever growing hatred toward slavery in the North

Rite of Passage

Rite of Passage Reflective Essay "Do things because you can, not because you should." (P.155) In the book Rite of Passage by Alexei Panshin there is a philosophy, in the fake universe, that says that people should do things because they can, not because they should. I think it is basically saying that if we know we can get away with things, go for it. However this philosophy wouldn't work in a society because everyone would be doing things they're not supposed to be doing and eventually it would backfire. This philosophy relates to our lives in many ways. When people know they can cheat and hide it, they sometimes take advantage of it. This doesn't mean that it's the right thing to do. When I go to the store and they accidentally sell me something for cheaper than what's its supposed to be, I usually don't say anything. Even though I know its wrong, I still do it.cheatingJust because we know we can do something and escape it doesn't always mean it's the right thing to do.In society people cheat all t he time, and sometimes they don't even know they are cheating. Taxes would be a great example of this philosophy because many people cheat on their taxes. They do it because they know that there are millions of people who do their taxes every year and it would be almost impossible for the government to find everyone who cheated on their taxes. The Bill Clinton scandal is also a great example of this philosophy because he thought he could conceal what he did, but in the end it went all wrong. Bill Clinton did what he did because he thought he could hide it, but it turned out to be wrong. Cheating is wrong no matter how hard someone...

Interview with manager of Not-fo-Profit Organization Coursework

Interview with manager of Not-fo-Profit Organization - Coursework Example Under-performing branches of the Salvation Army unable to procure adequate financial donations or those unable to sustain their expenditures are shifted under the jurisdiction of the colonel Officer to create turnaround strategies. Black indicated that his role in management accounting consists of determining new and innovative food distribution networks and also establishing local partnerships with various vendors that supply in-house materials for homeless services. At the Salvation Army, it is not cost effective to maintain an in-house transportation fleet, therefore the majority of Black’s daily activities include supply chain contractual bargaining with vendors. Strategic leadership at the executive level provides the colonel with quarterly projections related to the budget whereby Black must determine how best to allocate resources in a variety of operational areas. These areas include, along with homeless services, administrative services costs, food and recreation, inter-office technologies coordination, and educational systems procurement. It is a highly diverse position offering opportunities for business travel and one that is highly visible in various governing boards at the organization. The most interesting research results achieved that were associated with the Salvation Army and its organizational mission was the depth to which psychology is utilized as part of regular communications between mid-management team members and lower-level support groups. Officers in the Salvation Army are trained in a variety of psychological theories, especially foundational ones such as Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and Social Learning Theory. The Salvation Army believes that individuals being helped by the variety of services available lack fundamental securities associated with physiological needs and self-esteem development. Therefore, communications processes between managers and serviced individuals are highly strategized. They are trained in

Airline Operations Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 4500 words

Airline Operations - Essay Example The current market-centric performance of the two airlines is determined by their internal and external environments. For instance the internal environment consists of the airline's strength/weakness and opportunity/threat framework, organizational culture, leadership style, management and organizational structures, quality, value chain and HR management, communication, operations, finances, marketing, operations and so on. On the other hand the external environment consists of political, economic, social, technological, regulatory/legal and general environmental factors along with external supply chain management, strategic competitive environment and so on. Their product and marketing strategies are essentially aligned to the strategic competitive environment while operational strategies are basically influenced by the internal value creation methods. Product placement policy in different segments of the market of the two airlines has shown some constraints too. Marketing strategies of the two companies also have suffered reverses in the recent times despite a higher level of activity in the domestic markets. Sustained efforts to maximize the difference between costs and revenues are motivated by the invariably intensifying level of competition in both the domestic and international sectors. The proposed alliance between the two airlines on the transatlantic route will have a far reaching impact on markets and competition policy of other airlines. Finally financial management at both the companies has to be examined against the backdrop of a deteriorating performance of market metrics including share price and sales. A turnaround requires not only a strategic policy shift away from the existing gap-filling practices but also offensive strategic reorientation in selected segments. 2. Analysis 2.1. Historical overview Historically BMI evolved from the Derby Aviation Limited created in 1949 and changed its name to British Midland Airways in 1964 after the acquisition of the Manchester Airport based schedule and the Mercury Airlines. A significant change took place with it joining the Star Alliance in 2000 followed by rebranding the airline with BMI. Since then its labyrinthine process of evolution was coloured by a variety of twists and turns, some positive and some negative. On the other hand United Airlines began its commercial flights way back in 1926, in the US. Its original name was Varney Airlines founded by Walter Varney in Idaho. In 1927 Boeing Airtransport bought Varney Airlines. With the decline of the Pan American World Airways, United Airlines purchased the former in 1991 along with its rights over the routes to the London Heathrow Airport. It co-founded Star Alliance in 1997 and formed a marketing partnership with Delta Airlines in 1998. Except for its

Transition from Highschool to University Essay

Transition from Highschool to University Essay Transition of first year students into the university can be difficult for some students as they are required to adapt into a new environment and learning styles that is different from what they have learned during their previous years in school. This report will provide a discussion about the issues affecting the transition of first year students into university life using the topics discussed in FAP101 and other related texts. There are different issues identified in this report and recommendations have also been provided in order to help students in their first year in university and also to help institutions to help their students adapt into university environments and learning styles. These recommendations are as follows; It is essential for universities to introduce or update orientation programs for students before starting university. Institutions should let the students know about the workloads, the assessment styles and writing conventions during the orientation week. It is also important for the institutions to provide highly trained tutors that can work with students to help them with their problems or uncertainty about the topics in a particular course subject. Some students feel more comfortable when they have more friends that go to the same university as them. Students should be aware of workloads and different styles of assessments and also with writing conventions. Before commencing into university, as a student you are also able to attend open days, even during your HSC year, most universities are already organising open days for new students to give more information to students about the institutions and what to expect. Introduction Making a transition of first year students into academic life at an Australian tertiary institution can be one of the most challenging experiences. It is challenging not only in terms of academic purposes but also as it is the stage in students life where they will most likely to experience emotional, financial and social problems. As a student of tertiary school there will be huge adjustments that will have to be made by students such as adjustments to new learning and teaching styles, assessments styles and writing practices. Despite it all, transition to university life can be challenging to some students yet it is still a very awarding experience they will ever have. 2. Definition Transition is simply defined as moving from one level to another, it is a process and not an event in which it symbolise change, it can be seen as a motion from familiar into unfamiliar (Levin, 1987), for example environment. Transition of first year students is defined as moving up from high school into tertiary levels, changes that all first year students entering university has to tackle on. Student transition is also describes as a category of transitional changes that is needed for students in entering academic life in universities, it is a process of moving from one community to another (Tinto,1988). The students relationship with tertiary education is not the same as the one they had in primary or secondary. University has a more complex and comprehensive environment than secondary schools, and many students give up their closeness with their families, friends, and home to cope within the university life for a few years. The students transition is all about the students dealing with the whole university life and not just simply the university as formal and more academic institutions. Students have to adjust into a new learning styles and new surroundings, also with the people in the institutions they will be interacting with during their university life. The students will be likely to deal with a whole form of challenges during their period of time studying in university: social, personal and intellectual. These transitions are sometimes spoken out in high schools or during the last year of high school to give students a picture of how university will be like for them when they enter it but the truth is that some can be true but many are not. 3. STUDENTS TRANSITION Anthropologist Van Gennep, Tinto (1988) has stated that the cycle of entering the university moves through three distinct stages separation, transition and incorporation. 3.1 Separation during the separation stage, student will require to disconnect their selves from their connections of prior relationships with communities such as high school or home environments or anything that are atleast less stressful in order to adapt university life. 3.2 Transition students will find themselves interacting to other people with a completely new environment and learning strategies, and in order to make connections they have to blend in. During the transition stage, students have not quite accomplished the separation stage and still not obtained the academic and social interaction with the new stage of their learning. As Anthropologist Van Gennep, Tinto proposed, it is the stage where the process of moving from one community to another is taking place and he also said that this stage can be more or less stressful and difficult for some students. The first two stages is where students are often in greater risk of dropping out from their courses (Hillman, 2005) 3.3 Incorporation means inclusion, it is the final stage of the model that has been proposed by Tinto. It is the stage where students face difficulties in adopting the standards suitable to the new environment or setting, and in this case, it is the university or any tertiary levels. In order to accomplish this stage, students have to allocate contacts with different members from the institutions to set up social and academic connections. 4. ISSUES AFFECTING STUDENTS TRANSITION There are three identified main sections in which transition can be problematic, they are as follows; students anxiety, adjustment processes, and the continuity with respect to the curriculum (Hargreaves, et al 1996). Although they only have studied primary and secondary transitions, it is also identified that their findings are also relevant to other contexts such as the university or in the workplace. People tend to worry their selves when entering a new stage of their life, just like how students worry when entering university life. This can be a big problem when all they think about is the negative sides. The second section is the adjustment processes, as a new university students, you will have to adjust to the new environment and new learning styles. Continuity with respect to subject course studies can be problematic because some people are not aware of the difference of the subject studied in high school and universities, in terms of workloads and assessments style. If these problems that have been stated by Hargreaves, Earl and Ryan (1996) continued, this could lead to withdrawal or dropping out of a student from university studies. 4.1 Expectations of students prior to commencement During the final year of secondary school, most institutions chose to expose the students into basic academic strategies. It is to help supplement their students learning in to more academic stage to give them a basic image of how university will be like when they get to tertiary levels but despite it all, it is not enough. Most students have failed to adapt the academic transition when they enter university because they only have a basic knowledge about university life. The most common expectations first year students have of university life are as follows: -having fun during their studies, -meeting new people and making friends with them, Freedom that they never had during secondary studies. -more interesting subjects When students start their first few weeks in the university, they will find that the expectations theyve had prior to commencing university studies are actually the other way around. It is actually difficult to make friends, and that they will find out that there are much heavier workloads than they have expected during their high school life, and more. 4.2 The most common issues faced by first year student Are the following: fitting in to the new environment, most students undertaking their first year at the university are having hard times fitting into the new environment. University campuses are wide and groups of buildings can be associated with the institutions. Finding rooms can be a real hassle especially when the university is consists of different buildings. -making new friends, most students often start their first year at the university excited in making friends and meeting new people but sometimes, university is not described as a friendly place, as more students going to the university are more focus on their academic life than their social life. -University workload, this is one of the issues that cause a student to withdraw and give up their studies. It is because of their lack of confidence and usually these types of students are the ones who do not know how to manage their time for every subject which ended them up of leaving behind their study course. 5. CONCLUSION First year at universities are highly important in students life as they are now entering a different and a higher stage of education, it is significant yet its very challenging. Making the transition to academic life at an Australian university can be one of the most difficult and challenging experiences faces by first year students. Transition to the university life have also been one of the reasons why some students withdraws from their study, as they have experienced hard times or lack of self confidence to tackle the new stage of education. In order for students to achieved this stage of their life many institutions have introduced programs to help students and encourage them on how to be more focused in their studies and how to overcome the issues discussed in this report. 6. RECOMMENDATIONS It is essential for universities to introduce or update orientation programs for students before starting university. Institutions should provide a culture of university and also give the students advice in entering the university. It is also the students responsible to research information about the university they are planning to enroll in, in order to have knowledge about it when starting their tertiary education. Institutions should let the students know about the workloads, the assessment styles and writing conventions during the orientation week, so students can learn how to manage their times prior to commencing university studies. It is also a good idea for institutions to provide programs during the orientation week for first years students to get to know each other It is also important for the institutions to provide highly trained tutors that can work with students to help them with their problems or uncertainty about the topics in a particular course subject. Also a highly trained counsellor to help students with their problems outside university life, such as family problems and help them assist and overcome these issues to maintain the grades. Some students feel more comfortable when they have more friends that go to the same university as them. In order to make new friends and get the ability to get to know other people from the university, you have to be friendly to them and enhance your communication skills. Respect others if you want them to respect you too. Students should be aware of workloads and different styles of assessments and also with writing conventions. Students also have to be aware that entering a tertiary stage means that they have to be thinking more critically and more academic as they are now treated as adult. They should also be aware that lecturers are not as reliable as the teachers you had in high school, they expect you to be acting and thinking academically. Before commencing into university, as a student you are also able to attend open days, even during your HSC year, most universities are already organising open days for new students to give more information to students about the institutions and what to expect.

Domestic violence

Article Critique My article Is about the NFG football player Ray Rice who was caught on video surveillance beating up his fiancà ©Ã‚ ©e viscously until she fell unconscious. In the article it explains that sadly, the NFG has dealt with many domestic violence cases Just as bad as this one. In the criminal case, he can avoid prosecution and a criminal record by completing the pre-trial intervention program. Most people who do such an offence wouldn't be given this option to do instead. Many people believe that since he is professional athlete, he is able to go around the justice system in favor for himself. â€Å"Joana Rice has been supportive of her husband and criticized his indefinite suspension by the NFG†. I chose this quote because I found it very shocking that his fiancà ©Ã‚ ©e that was beaten up by Ray Rice is defending him and accusing the media for getting into their private lives. She is probably doing this out of fear from him. This relates to our Families In Canada class because It shows us what an abusive legislations Is and how the man thinks he Is more dominant then the woman. The mall reason why I chose this article was that It shocked me that his flan ©e was defending him after the incident and said the media should leave them alone. I also chose it because I know this is a regular issue in professional sports. Incidents like this happen a couple times a year and mainly in the NFG. To conclude this article teaches me that this is a bad example for information for parents and families.Class Question: Why do you think Ray Rice's fiancà ©Ã‚ ©e defended him after an incident like this? By: Matthew Tomato's RAY RICE By animators My article is about the NFG football player Ray Rice who was caught on video he is professional athlete, he is able to go around the Justice system in favor for relates to our Families in Canada class because it shows us what an abusive relationship is and how the man thinks he is more dominant then the woman. The m ain reason why I chose this article was that it shocked me that his fiancà ©Ã‚ ©e was Domestic Violence â€Å"A violence that occurs between partners in an intimate relationship such as marriage, or cohabitation – to live together as husband and wife, usually without legal or religious sanction. † That's how dictionary. com describes spousal abuse. But to me, spousal abuse is when one person in a marriage sanctified relationship verbally, mentally, emotionally, or physically abuses the other person in the relationship. Many people view domestic violence as only happening to specific races, ethnicities, class, education level or age of the abuser but, surprising to many, it occurs in all social economic, religious, and cultural groups. And it can be the most damaging thing a man or woman could ever go through. In the US, a woman is beaten or assaulted every 9 seconds. At least one in every three women has been beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused during her lifetime all around the world. Most often, the abuser is a member of her own family. Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women – more than car accidents, muggings, and rapes combined. Studies suggest that up to 10 million children witness some form of domestic abuse annually.Nearly 1 in 5 teenage girls who have been in a relationship said a boyfriend threatened violence or self-harm if presented with a breakup. Every day in the US, more than three women are murdered by their husbands or boyfriends. 92% of women surveyed listed reducing domestic violence and sexual assaults as their top concern. Domestic violence victims lose nearly 8 million days of paid work per year in the US alone – the equivalent of 32,000 full-time jobs.Based on reports from 10 countries, between 55% and 95% of women who had been physically abused by their partners had never contacted non-governmental organizations, shelters, or the police for help. The costs of intimate partner violence in the US alone exceed $5. 8 billion per year: $4. 1 billion are for direct medical and health care ser vices, while productivity losses amount for nearly $1. 8 billion. Men who as children witnessed their parents' domestic violence were twice more likely to abuse their own wives than sons of nonviolent. He always apologized, and sometimes he would even cry because of the bruises he'd made on her arms or legs or her back. He would say that he hated what he'd done, but in the next breath tell her she'd deserved it. That if she'd been more careful, it wouldn't have happened. That if she'd been paying attention or hadn't been so stupid, he wouldn't have lost his temper. † -Nicholas Sparks, Safe Haven. When people think of abuse, they always seem to ask the question: â€Å"Why don't you just leave? ,† â€Å"Why did you stay so long in the first place? ,† â€Å"How could you love someone who did something like that to you? But it's not always that easy. A woman I know very well and am extremely close with was once affected by spousal abuse and she will be the first per son to say leaving was not only the hardest thing she's ever done, but the scariest and most complicated. This woman was beaten numerous times by a husband that â€Å"loved her. † â€Å"At first it wasn't so bad,† she recalls. â€Å"He wasn't always mean. And when he was being nice, I couldn't even remember the times he was being mean. † Abuse is a cycle. It can start out being once a year, once a month, and escalate to being numerous times a day.Abuse works sort of like the cycle of precipitation. When the sun heats up the body of water, it's like the man getting angry. As the water evaporates and rises into the air, it's like the yelling, name calling, emotional aspect of abuse is construed. As the water cools and condenses to become droplets, which form clouds, is when the pushing and the shoving and the slight hitting begin. When the water condenses and falls to the ground as rain or snow, is when the beating begins: the punching, the kicking, the mauling. A nd as the rain collects, is when apologizes and/or crying begins. The worst time was when we beat me so bad I couldn't open my eyes for a week,† my friends confines to me. â€Å"Once he got mad and punched me so hard he cracked my rib. † â€Å"He later got mad and kicked me out of the bed which surfaces the continuation of the breaking of the rib. † â€Å"He would lock my in the basement for hours just because he got mad. † â€Å"He would rip apart my clothes and take a hammer to all the jewelry I owned that wasn't on my body. † â€Å"He cheated on me. † â€Å"He undermined me, called me names, talked to me so bad I thought I was a monster. I would look in the mirror once a day just to brush my hair and put on my makeup. Now, as you read this I know you've asked yourself that universal question: â€Å"Why didn't you just leave? Why'd you let it get so bad? † But think when you were threatened weekly that he would not only kill you, bu t your family, and take your kids, leaving would probably be the last thing on your mind. â€Å"Why didn't you call the cops? † Well, when you wanted nothing more than to pretend that nothing was happening and everything was okay and you were normal just like everyone else, getting law enforcement involved and creating drama was the absolute last thing you wanted. But she did finally get the courage to leave when she thought of her oldest son, and how he'd be starting school soon. How could you send a child to school with them witnessing his mother getting beaten and him be able to actually lead a normal life? And believe me this not something that just happened out of the blue. It was an extraneous plan to get out without him hurting her, her family, and most importantly, their two sons. The story I'll never forget though, is months after she left, going back to pick up her son from the father's supervised visitation, he tried to kill her.Just thinking of this story sends chi lls down my spine and brings tears to my eyes. Their son had an event at Sunday school he was dying to go to, and he could only under one condition†¦ She had to go pick him up by herself. Thinking back upon this, she realizes what a stupid decision she made but at the time, she was focused on her the wants of her child. As she arrived at his house, she approached the door, having a gut feeling that something was really wrong but she suffaced the feeling and went inside to get her boy.Upon departure, the man that had formerly beaten her asked if he could walk her to the car. This was weird because he never asked for permission, but she just shrugged it off and agreed to it, which would prove later to be the worst decision of her life. As she reached over to buckle in her oldest son, she felt the hair on the back of her neck stand up, she knew something horrendous was momentarily about to happen. She turned around to her former husband, the former love of her life, blatantly stab bing her repeatedly in the chest with the sheer intention to murder her.As she sat there pressing against the steering wheel as hard as she could, her two children screaming bloody murder, this man, who â€Å"loved this woman more than that anything on the planet,† jabbed a knife into her chest twelve different times. If it hadn't been the man's mother running outside to see what all the commotion was about, this woman probably won't be here today. The woman is strongest, most courageous, most beautiful woman I know. She is my role model. She was dealt the worst card a life could of been dealt and struggled through it and is now one of the most happy women on the planet. This woman has been there for me through thick and thin. She is a pinochle of strength. She is the prime example that abuse could most possibly be the worst thing on this planet, but you can get through and even though at the time it make seem like it, it's not the end of the world. Just remember next you hear a story of abuse and think, â€Å"Why didn't they just leave? ,† think back to this woman story. See her struggles and difficulties. See how hard it was to escape. Next, time don't just judge the book by the cover. Open it up and read a few pages first. Abuse is an extremely serious thing that shouldn't be ignored.I know I sound like one of those commercials telling to call someone, let someone know it's happening to you. But it's the truth. The sooner you come out to someone about it, the closer you are to getting the courage to leave once and for all. Remember, it's not going to be an easy process but, in life, you have to work for the things you truly want and are truly important to you. And remember, you're not the only one. This happens to women all over the world. You're not alone, take a stand. By: Chelsea Fenwick 3rd Period * Statistics and facts taken from http://domesticviolencestatistics. org/domestic-violence-statistics/ Domestic violence Article Critique My article Is about the NFG football player Ray Rice who was caught on video surveillance beating up his fiancà ©Ã‚ ©e viscously until she fell unconscious. This Critique Will Discuss The Two Business Strategic...

This critique will discuss the two business strategic analysis models of SWOT and Porters 5 Forces, with a view to further understanding their application in Strategic Management. I will discuss the usefulness and applicability of these models in business today, and whether other contemporary models should be applied when exploring strategies for analysis. STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT In my readings for this critique, I learned Strategic Management has been difficult to define by both Academics and Scholars alike. The Strategic Management Journal article, â€Å"What is Strategic Management, Really? â€Å" references John Wiley as stating in part, Strategic Management is â€Å"fragmented and lacking a coherent identity†, which is ‘paradoxically at odds with†¦show more content†¦OPPORTUNITIES Are there current gaps in the market? Innovation? Are there political, economic, social or technological changes that could be favourable for you? THREATS What is your competition doing that could impact you? EXTERNAL ASSESSMENT SWOT is considered a widely used tool to assist an organisation understand their business activity, both internally and externally. The intent is to not only formulate strategies that support the mission of the organisation but to avoid weaknesses, neutralise the threats and exploit opportunities and strengths. (Davidson et al 2009. P212). SWOT provides the guidelines for critically assessing what you’re doing right, what you’re doing wrong, who or what can take you down, and what you can do to get—and stay—ahead of the pack. The internal factors relate to the organisation s strengths and weaknesses, i.e. competency, and competitive viability. An internal analysis using the data generated by SWOT will assist in the development of planning objectives to grow and sustain a business. An analysis of the strength and competency would include technology and equipment to accomplish work, which would then support the brand identity, expertise, and resources of the business. The weaknesses are the opposite – poor technology, lack of expertise or deficient in assets. Once these deficiencies are revealed, theShow MoreRelatedImportance Of Corporate Social Responsibility On Todays Society1136 Words   |  5 PagesImportance of Corporate Social Responsibility in today’s society Before five years, I came across a situation which led me to think about the importance and need of social responsibility by business enterprises.
